Physiotherapist Guided Pilates
Pilates is ideal if you wish to improve your posture, balance, strength and flexibility. A guided pilates class takes you through the principles of engaging the deep abdominal and spinal muscles, combined with breath control to support the spine while moving.
Classes are one hour in duration, offering a progressive programme over 8 weeks ranging from beginners to advanced level, with exercise adapted and tailored to your ability. It encompasses a variety of exercise; from floor based work to more functional postures. Exercises are generally slower, and more controlled than other forms of exercise, with attention given to breath control, posture and alignment. Unlike other forms of strength training, though, pilates works on improving muscle tone and conditioning, rather than muscle bulk. It improves core strength and endurance and can result in a longer, leaner you.

“Sheila being a fully qualified physiotherapist, provides a safe, and calm atmosphere in the class. She has excellent understanding of individuals abilities and approaches all of the exercises with care and quiet vocals. This allows everyone to manage the movements in a relaxed pleasant atmosphere.”

Physiotherapy Guided Pilates offers a mode of exercise that it customised to your health goals, regardless of age, sex, health status and fitness level. Meeting with you beforehand allows us to discuss what you want to focus on and what benefits you would like to see and feel.

In today’s age, we spend so much of our day doing sedentary activities. This can take its toll on our body resulting in poor posture and deconditioning.
Practicing pilates helps to build a strong and stable foundation in all that we do and for this reason it is gaining popularity as a way to look after our bodies. Like yoga, tai chi, and other intentional movement exercises, pilates can help us to bring focus to what we are doing in the here and now. Cultivating mindful awareness has many potential benefits with respect to our physical, emotional and mental health. Taking the time to practice pilates can leave you feeling calmer and re-energised. And like all exercise, what’s most important is how it makes you feel, both on and off the mat.

Physiotherapy Guided Pilates is suitable for all levels of ability, offering guidance for those with pre-existing injuries or areas of pain as well as other health conditions. Often a barrier to exercising, is the fear of injury or making our aches and pains worse. Prior to joining the class there is the opportunity to meet to discuss any issues or concerns. Physiotherapy guided classes offers the opportunity to exercise along with others, while having a programme tailored to your own unique body.
